It’s early in the morning after the night before, and we need a hangover cure – somewhere relaxed and calm with good coffee and good food.
Long Play Cafe can be found opposite the Swing Bridge on the Newcastle side of the Tyne. Its relaxed feel and cool vibes make it a favourite with locals. In one corner there’s a small vinyl store, in the other LPs are playing to help you chill out. There are big windows street side that flood the room full of lovely morning sunshine.
The staff are friendly and casual, and nothing is too much trouble. We take a seat near the window, and order some tea and coffee, along with an LPC breakfast (bacon, sausage, mushroom, beans, egg and toast) and Lumberjack Pancakes (with bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, and maple syrup).
Both are absolutely delicious, and hit the spot perfectly. As I sip my tasty frothy cappuccino I don’t feel rushed at all. I can enjoy the atmosphere along with my fellow customers. Some are reading books or working away on laptops while others are playing one of the board games from the shelf.
Expect to spend around £10 or just over for breakfast and a hot drink, which is really pretty good for what you get and where you are. Breakfast is available all day, but there’s also a more lunch-based menu if you prefer. You can grab some food to take-out too.
